Protests against asylum seekers have erupted across the UK. With some counter-protests. It’s starting to feel as if the film Children of Men (2016) depicting 2027, may become prophetic. I must be an optimist, as the New Statesmen published an article last year titled: Are we really living in Children of Men?
A distant friend who sends me a Christmas and birthday card every year tells me of the English Channel migrants (while laughing): ‘I’d drown them myself’. I’m shocked on behalf of these men, women, children, and babies, because this would actually be … murder.
I point out that she is an immigrant herself. ‘We are different,’ she proclaims. ‘My father was a legal immigrant who worked hard all his life’.
My cousin’s ex-husband who was granted legal asylum in the UK, worked hard all his life too, accumulating so much that when my cousin asked for a divorce after decades of marriage and a son and he insisted repeatedly: ‘WE WERE NEVER MARRIED’ (??!) she dragged him through the courts to get her fair share by trying to show that they were (quietly in his home country, she said).
He arrived in the UK at Heathrow, not by boat, which according to ‘Right to Remain’ has been made very difficult to do for asylum seekers, since.
Of course, asylum seekers, not dissimilar to tourists (the British teenager imprisoned for having sex with a 17 year old in Dubai?) may be unfamiliar with laws/customs in a new country, misunderstandings may arise due to language barriers, and like the general population a small proportion may actually commit crimes.
But it would seem better to educate them and process them fast, rather than to: ‘set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards,’ as someone suggested publicly (on X) which if had been done and anyone had died would be…murder.
That’s not to say that I feel the best way of dealing with that latter person is to put them in prison, which is what happened (1). I’m not sure.
Would it have been more effective to find a group of highly successful legalised asylum seekers, just like my cousin’s ex- and give them a public platform as to how they feel about a person publicly calling for UK housing for asylum seekers to be set on fire with them inside?
Maybe, just maybe (with faces blurred out, as, you know, asylum claims are based on extreme danger such as risk of being…murdered… by country of origin, which would explain the above cousin’s marriage/wedding being VERY quiet, NOBODY KNOWS WE ARE RELATED!) they would speculate, pontificate, or nervously hesitate.
And say it might possibly all stem back to when their country’s political system was destabilised as the UK wanted to keep control of the oil industry/money on their soil. When a democratically elected politician’s government nationalised the oil industry, UK’s MI6 and the CIA (persuaded by the UK) instigated a MILITARY COUP.
The consequences of which were strongly linked by at least one prominent historian, who appeared on PBS here, to an eventual CATACLYSMIC political event (see image below), with people fleeing the country ever since (including a ‘brain drain’) (2).
This MI6 involvement was laid bare in the award-winning documentary Coup 53 (2019) starring Ralph Fiennes, but such a ‘hot potato’ no film distributor wanted to touch it. Well, it did mention a particularly gruesome…
Between 2018 and 2024, this country accounted for the highest number of ‘small boat people’ crossing the English Channel precariously to seek asylum (3).

The MI6 instigation was classified as TOP SECRET for decades. It was ‘declassified’ by the CIA over half a century later, in 2017 (4).
So it’s at the UK that Michael Jones in Metro (5) points the finger when he asks: who were the initial instigators of the crisis we face today? My mother disagrees. She is ADAMANT explosively-interfered-with-countries should take responsibility for their own outcomes. But even the M.A.G.A.s are clocking the woes of poking your nose into other countries affairs?
It can be alarming with strange people on your doorstep, but can this be evaluated? This week my neighbour informed me that the nice white building on our short road has in the last six months been turned into a methadone clinic for addicts.
Strange people hang around, some of them seem drunk and with injuries to their faces. Why here and not in a hospital clinic, I think irritably but unreasonably (?) as maybe it wouldn’t be easy to attend if it was further to travel.
I worry about crime from loitering addicts, but I wouldn’t protest or complain, as in this particular context, where they are being helped to kick their habit, this is likely to lead to a reduction in crime?
Yes, it is worrying, with the strange proliferation of bearded men in your local restaurant, when the adult son of your cousin who procreated with an asylum seeker (the adult son who now has a Master’s degree in International Human Rights) states confidently and with concern that the bearded men are ‘Albanian drug dealers’.
My parents later advise me: how can the adult son be sure the bearded men are Albanian drug dealers? How does he know when he doesn’t live in our area? Why is his mother who procreated with an asylum seeker sniffing in disapproval at the men as we sit in the restaurant in our area of London, not theirs?
Are the bearded men asylum seekers or are they visitors or are they British citizens? Maybe they are just construction workers on their break from the nearby large scale construction sites, building to solve the UK housing crisis?
Yes, there is an increasing number of asylum seekers, but how do we know they are the main causes of our problems, and are not harbouring the solutions, and why has this issue escalated to the point of some people sharing thoughts which are ….murderous?
To be continued.
